Wildfire activity in the Prince George Fire Centre continues to be centred around Fort Nelson. Fire Information Officer Jill Chimko says lightning caused 20 new fires between Friday and Sunday.
She says a couple of fires were in the Fort St. James area, but the majority were in the northeast. Chimko says firefighters have already extinguished 12 of the fires and none of the new fires are cause for concern.
"So far, we have seven unit crews, so that's approximately 200 firefighters up in Fort Nelson, along with multiple initial attack crews."
The fire danger rating is currently low in the Prince George and Valemount areas and high to extreme in Fort Nelson. |
