The Fort Nelson Army Cadets are looking to recruit numbers this spring our goal is to have 25 cadets by June. For the past few years we have met at Chalo School and at the Northern Lights College and we will be moving to R.L. Angus in April. We meet on alternating Saturdays, with a schedule to be posted soon. Some planned activities for the next few months are: camping, canoeing, repelling, community open house and a trip to Canadian Forces Base Wainwright. Army Cadets is free to all boys and girls, including summer camps and trips. Uniforms are loaned at no cost. Project X Kids Spring Break Camp is coming soon! Sponsored by the Northern Rockies Rec Department. This will be an adventurous week long program with arts & crafts, games, swimming, skating, outside activities, movies and more...March 6 to 12 from 9am to 4pm at the Aurora Dance Centre for ages 6 to 12 years. The Fort Nelson Community Literacy Society is offering a free five-session Volunteer Tutor Training. Each session is at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 9, Wednesday, March 10, Thursday, March 11, Friday, March 12, and Tuesday, March 16. This short training course allows you to acquire basic skills and knowledge of the principles and practice of adult literacy learning to volunteer as a tutor for an adult or English as a Second Language learner. The Northern Rockies Regional Municipality has initiated a Bottle Donation Program!! Widesky Disposal has agreed to allow the NRRM to place a bin on their property for the purpose of collecting un-sorted recyclables. The public is incouraged to donate their recyclables by dropping them off in the bin. Non-profit volunteer groups will sort and return the recyclables and monies received from the returns will be retained by the Non-profit organization. Your donation of recyclables will help support the following Non-profit organizations: Recycle for Hope (Africa), Fort Nelson Secondary School Band Program, Fort Nelson Minor Hockey Association, Fort Nelson Finns Swim Club.
