Whats cheaper? Dog or cat?

I've had both dogs and cats over the years, and if I had to compare costs to keep each going, paws down, the cheapest pet to own would be the cat.
A dog requires constant upkeep and maintenance. There are ongoing walks that mean Frisbees and balls, which sooner or later get destroyed or lost and need replacing.

After walks, many dogs are bound to be covered in mud or heaven knows what, which means a trip to the doggy bath for a wash-up that can easily cost $50, unless you're willing to scrub him up yourself. Since a dog is constantly on the move, you'll need a series of collars, leashes and pooper-scoopers and you will probably have to install a divider gate in your car to keep your pooch confined to the back area if you choose to ride with Fido in tow.

Dogs come with hidden costs, especially at the beginning, when they are new to your home and nervous. A puppy often chews and destroys your TV's remote control or your eyeglasses because these things smell like you. (info from yahoo.ca)

Dogs need training. Cats don't.

I vote for cats!

I was a cat person hands down. But a few years ago I got my first pup and boy do I love him.

So in the end I am both a cat and dog person.

I guess I never really answered the question though, so yes dogs are way more expensive then cats.

I like dogs and I like cats....I am a cat owner.
Cats are cheaper and easier to own. They poop in a contained box that is easy to scoop or dump and refill...Dogs: poop outside and require owner to pick it up (YUCK). Cats eat less too.

If your animal is a toy type of pet...toys are expensive. It just depends what room you have and what you are willing to spend. Cats have large climbing trees; Dogs have houses.

I love my cat and I still think they are cheaper.

I have both and wouldn't part with either one! Yes, dog's cost more money but can you play fetch with your cat? Cats aren't much fun to take on long walks or down to the river to throw sticks in the water for them to get but yet gives you countless minutes of entertainment with their little catnip toys!! But right now, both are curled up on the couch together having a nap....priceless!!!!

Cats are cheaper. I didn't have to train my cat.REMEMBER you don't train your cat. They train you.Any cat owner will tell you that.

I would have to say that cats are probably much cheaper but like SheBop said you cant play fetch with a cat or take it for long walks.. I love my dog and couldnt imagine not having her whether she is exspensive or not. I am not really a cat person either i must say. I would rather be picking the poop up in a well ventilated area then the poop being in my house...

Aha...I had a kitty...RIP Princess...she loved going for a run on a leash. As soon as she had her harness on she was raring to go. She was a fun kitty.

My current kitty, she is well trained. She comes when I call her. She doesn't go on the table. Believe me very funny situation watching her try to get a left over treat off the table without touching it.

Cats can be trained but not usually.

I gotta say man, my cat is expensive. He is an extremley large breed (similar to a maine coon cat). His wet food/dry food bills run a couple hundred bucks a month. Then there is his litter which runs around 50 a month.

I also really like having skin so his catnip drug bill goes in for 25 a month. Then the add ons like kitty treats and watch baterries for the lazer pointer and its a fair chunk of change.

He also only drinks purified water out of the cooler and it has to be in a coffee cup placed under the end table in the living room. I do buy the expensive diet/weight/tartar/hairball science formulas and all his food must be seafood flavoured.

So yeah. I should be able to use him as a tax write off like human kids.

Chunki Munki doesn't do that but she likes to jump into the shower with me at a little past 4 in the morning...it's wierd or what?
She used to jump right out as soon as the water hits her..now, she sits down at the end of the tub (where water is still getting to her but obviously not as bad) and she'll groom and watch me shower!
That's wierd but she's a great cat...
