Well, Icetitty opened up the flood gates when he started talking about UFC in another thread, so I figured we could use a new topic dedicated to the brutality that we all love in the world of Mixed Martial Arts.
In response to your last posts Iceman, I have to say that I wasn't all that impressed with Velasquez's last fight. I'm going to go as far as to say that I think he got lucky against Kongo. Not to impune upon Velasquez's abilities, because the man is a superb fighter, but I think that fight was sloppy at best for both participants and I wouldn't be surprised to see a reverse outcome if they were to battle once more.
That being said, Carwin vs. Velasquez is sure to be an epic fight, but I can easily say that Shane Carwin will completely destoy Cain just like he has everyone else who's been unfortunate enough to stand in this behemoth's path. The man has never been out of the first round, and he's never lost. If anyone is going to beat Brock Lesnar, it's Carwin. If he fails against Lesnar then the heavyweight division will be cleaned out, at least until Fedor signs with the UFC. If Fedor continues to puss out (I think it's obvious that he's scared) then Lesnar might as well retire. Who else would there be? Kimbo Slice? LOL
As for the unannounced fight that I'm looking forward to the most? Spider vs. Machida. Silva says it will never happen because they're friends, but let's face facts here. The Middleweight division is cleaned out. Silva and Machida will collectively clean out the Light Heavyweight division leaving only themselves to ponder who is the better fighter. This fight will happen. It has to.
Anyway, I could rant on about this crap ALL DAY, so I'm going to stop there for the time being. I look forward to hearing people's opinions on this stuff.....if there are in fact MMA fans here.
Giggity.

Holy sheet. That's a great announcement! It saves Carwin the trouble of making Velasquez look weak and thrusts him right into the main event. I'm very, very stoked for that fight. It's going to be a LONG wait until November.
Spider should just move up, I mean really....Middleweight? He's making Light Heavyweights look downright silly, there's no reason for him to be fighting at 185 any more. Hopefully Dana will let him. It also makes me happy because I heard all the rumours about a possible GSP vs. Spider match, and I was very very scared for our great Canadian Hero.

There's also word of Couture dropping back down to 205 and fighting Machida. Clearly The Natural is long past his prime and continuing to compete at Heavyweight is only going to prove it. Moving down is really his only option but I have a feeling he won't fair well there either. Sure, he may knock out a few up and comers but Machida would make him look as silly as Spider did to Griffin. It's time for Randy Couture to retire, forever.....or go to Strikeforce :D OUCH!

Fedor end Lesnar? I'm sorry my friend, I must respectfully disagree. Fedor is ridiculous, no question about it, but when was the last time he had an actual fight? A REAL fight. I don't even remember. Mirko Filipovi? way back in '05 was the last time I remember hearing about Fedor going 3 rounds, and I don't think it's because he's SO good that he demolishes everyone, I think he's been fighting too many washed up hacks and nobody's. The only way Fedor has a chance against Brock is to find a way to submit him, quickly, because otherwise Lesnar would mutilate him, IMPO of course. Fedor is scared sheetless to fight Lesnar, that much is obvious. To turn down $5 million a fight plus a cut of the PPVs? Come on...

Lesnar is big and fast no doubt. Strong as hell too. He has no experience and no sub defense. Fedor would do him in the first round. Gotta be a reason why he's considered GOAT. If he can arm bar Hong Man Choi from his back ,Coleman twice from his back, destroy Big Nog twice and go 6-0 against former UFC heavyweight champs I dont think Lesnar would be problem. His last 2 were against top 5 heavies and his next was supposed to be against the number 2 ranked heavy. Cant argue with that.
Its not his opponents per say, its that he doesnt make mistakes, he has the perfect gameplan always and has never lost a single round let alone a fight on 30 fights. I think Bodog had odds on there fantasy site with lesnar being +300 and Fedor -800. Sadly its a fight we'll never see. They agreed to every UFC term and the UFC would not agree to cross promote which M1 Global insisted on. Which I dont blame them for. I blame his mobbed up manager Vladim Finkelstein.

Hey if you're interested I have a whack of Pride FC dvd's. A few of the shockwaves and the entire 6 disc heavyweight tournament whic was insane!! Nog's anaconda choke on herring was epic, and I think it was the first time anyone had seen that. Bunch of stuff. I used to be the same way lovelymiss. The first time I watched it, the guy had knocked the other guy out cold, and he kept punching his limp head, and it almost made me sick. That's the only think that I can't stand, but they are usually pretty quick to call the fight.

Ya Clay Guida. Good fighter. I've watched the sport since the "dark days" and I admit I just liked to see brutality. But after a few years I really appreciated the ground game and enjoy watching submission/grappling aspect of the sport.
Its a weird time to be a fan of MMA because ever since "the ultimate fighter" show there has been a ton of new people who are pretty clueless about it and only know fighters from the tv show or the ufc. ---------- I wouldn't bet that the Iceman won't comment!

Who ya got on the main? I expect Randy to bully in dirty box, up against the cage and shoot for the double and go for a GnP stoppage. That being said I'm picking Big Nog 2nd round submission. Both guys have been in wars but Nog has fought better competition has a better record is younger and is supposedly injury free for this fight unlike his showing against Mir. ---------- A bullet may have your name on it. Alright so I've been a little busy and unable to post my thoughts on UFC 102 thus far. So here goes:
UFC 102 = AWESOME. 4 out of 5 stars ****
What a great Non-Title PPV this was. I even liked how they used the filler matches throughout the entire PPV (I believe there were at least two fillers before the main event, and one after?). Couture vs. Nogueira was one of the best fights I've seen in a LONG time. Randy Couture completely blew me away with his resilincy. At 46 years old he may not have what it takes to be the Champ, but he's still a tough S.O.B. and I look forward to his next fight! (or 6 fights?)
Todd Duffee. I'm calling this now. He will be contending for the Heavyweight title one day, hopefully sooner than later. I know that 7 seconds isn't really enough time to judge this young man's abilities, so I looked into some of his past. He's a large kid with tons of KO power (duh?) and is Carwin-like in his ablility to end fights quickly. Look out for this one, he's on his way to the top!
It was really good to see Thiago Silva come back as strong as he did. Losing to Machida his last fight didn't affect him at all, and if anything it made him more focused. He was totally dominate and I'm stoked to see him get another shot at Machida (or whoever is the champ........Spider?) Thiago is another fighter who is destined for greatness and it's always fun watching him kick some ass. I feel bad for Jardine though as his career may be coming to an end. He's such an entertaining fighter to watch and that alone may keep him around a little longer.
Nate Marquardt. Awesome knockout. I LOVE how they show that sh*t over and over again, LOL. I don't want Dana to give him the title shot yet just to have him lose to Spider again. I like this guy and I'm not interested in seeing him get his ass handed to him so soon. I think Marquardt vs. Henderson would be great practice for both men before facing the deadliest striker to ever live.
I was also happy to see Brandon Vera win again after having a bit of a rough go the past few years. I've always liked watching this guy fight even though he's a little on the boring side, except for the time he beat the pee out of Mir, THAT was exciting. Those kicks are ridiculous too. All the props in the world to Krzysztof Soszynksi, he's one tough mo-fo.
Anyway, that's all the time I have left for now. Oh, HAHA @ Chris Leben. Hate that guy, glad he lost.
The Mike out.

Not the fastest KO in ufc history though. I was pretty sure that went to "bang" Ludwig in 4 seconds but the time keeper screwed up and listed it at 11. GIF's all over the net of that one. And I dont think it will ever be possible to beat Kid Yamamoto's knockout time of 2 seconds. Takes that long for both guys to charge at each other.
Also was that Ed Herman who decided to keep fighting with the Bum knee and decide to throw a kick off of it? Hell was he thinking?? ---------- I'm taciturn by nature

Predictions for UFC 103 Main Events:
Rich Franklin Vs. Vitor Belfort
This is a tough call. I'm rooting for Ace, no question, love this guy, but he'll have his work cut out for him. Even though Belfort has lost to a few UFC elites he's still a threat in any fight. Funny how the UFC is listing The Phenom's record at 12-5 as opposed to his actual MMA record of 18-8. That's peculiar (spoken with Eddie Murphy's white man voice). Anyway, Belfort has only ever been KO'd once so I would look for a solid ground game from Ace. Rich Franklin wins this fight by unanimous decision.
Mirko Cro Cop Vs. Junior Dos Santos
Another tough call. Cro Cop went the distance against Fedor and has defeated a number of highly ranked fighters. However, Junior Dos Santos is younger, bigger, and I think has only been out of the first round once?...I think this fight will be quick, and I'm giving it to Junior via KO in the first round.
On a quick note, Mike Swick Vs. Martin Kampmann I'm giving to Swick via second round KO.
Could be a decent PPV, but won't hold a candle to UFC 104 which features Lyoto Machida vs. Mauricio “Shogun” Rua for the Light Heavyweight Title title, Spencer Fisher vs. Joe Stevenson and Ben Rothwell vs. Cain Velasquez. THAT'S gonna be a wicked $40 spent.
The Mike says it's time to do some work. I should listen to him.

After the beating Belfort tattoed onto Lindland (who I think is awesome) I see him taking the fight. If Old Vitor shows I predict a first round fatality via head getting punched off into the 5th row. That being said check their rankings

Ugh...Just give it to GSP via default if that's the case. Rush could beat the snot out of both of them simultaneously while hungover from a 3 month cocaine and hooker binge. I'm stoked for the next GSP PPV, but not for the actual fight.
They need to have Spider drop the Middleweight belt and move permanently to Light Heavyweight, thus creating a new Middleweight Champion who could fight GSP fair and square. Spider is just too big for GSP (Dana White's opinion, I agree) so that superfight won't happen. Rush won't have another valid fight until a new Middleweight champ is crowned (assuming the new champ isn't capable of weighing 205 overnight). Thoughts please...

Anderson Silva will never fight Machida. Therefore he has no buisness in a weightclass he refuses to fight (title wise) for. Henderson has no interest in a Marquardt fight and wants to fight Anderson Silva.
I think Henderson could beat him. He whopped his ass the first round they fought and then by his own admission didnt stick to the game plan. I think Dana is afraid to let this fight happen because if Hendo wins Dana will lose his P4P bragging rights. ---------- I'm taciturn by nature

Dana White, on UFC All Access last weekend, said that Silva vs. Machida HAS to happen. It's not up to Spider or The Dragon. He realizes the potential of this match and knows that when Silva bumps up to LHW, there's no turning back until that match happens. The only way this fight won't happen is if one or both of them are no longer employed by the UFC, or injured. You heard it here first folks, Spider vs. The Dragon will happen, it's too big not to. When I heard Dana say that I became excited....in my pants.
You think Henderson could beat Spider? You must have been referring to Henderson vs. Marquardt...

Hmmm...don't know too much about Paul Daley, except that he's filling in on short notice and that's never good. He better be training his ace off for this fight because Kampmann has really only lost once IMO, his first L came by way of ref stoppage (cut), same way Fedor "lost". Plus Kampmann can win a variety of different ways. I don't know, I'm just talking out of my ass mostly...

Semtex Daley had some really good fights in the British "Cage Rage" promotion. Excellent stand up fighter. Kampmann is awesome too but for a kick boxing champ he drops his head a lot in his fights and keeps his hands fairly low. Daley was on the undercard so Im sure training (cardio/weight) wise wont be a problem.
I thought the first of his 2 losses came from Andrei Semenov and it was a straight up KO. Then TKO from Nate Marquardt? ---------- Edit: It was from Semenov and is listed as a TKO (cut). My bad. The fedor cut should have been ruled a no contest as the strike that cut him was illegal (elbow) but since it was a tourny a winner had to be declared.

UFC 105's new main event is now a Lightheavyweight battle between Randy Couture vs. Brandon Vera. I was a little surprised to hear that considering it would only be a 2 PPV rest for The Natural, and at his age I expected to see a larger gap between appearances. As for the fight itself, I'm calling Couture to win this one via KO (ground & pound) in Round #2. I can't honestly say that I'm overly thrilled for the fight, but I am excited to see Couture. As for a REAL PPV event, hold sh*t @ UFC 107! You see the card for this fight so far?? As it stands today, it looks something like this:
Lightweight Championship: B.J. Penn vs. Diego Sanchez
Lightweight bout: Kenny Florian vs. Clay Guida
Welterweight bout: Thiago Alves vs. Paulo Thiago
Welterweight bout: Kevin Burns vs. TJ Grant
Middleweight bout: Alan Belcher vs. Wilson Gouveia
Heavyweight bout: Frank Mir vs. Cheick Kongo
Heavyweight bout: Todd Duffee vs. TBA
Heavyweight bout: Antônio Rodrigo Nogueira vs. TBA
So let me get this straight.....we get Penn, Sanchez, Guida, Florian, Alves, Mir, Kongo and Nogueira all on the same card?!? Also we get Canadian submission specialist TJ Grant?!? Jesus himself couldn't have come up with a more intriguing PPV.
*For the record, Grant deserved the win @ UFC 100, so I would look for him to be super-pissed during this fight.

Mike where did you find that Duffee and Big Nog are fighting? All I got is this...
Matchups: UFC Lightweight Championship B.J. Penn (No. 1 LW, No. 6 PFP) vs. Diego Sanchez
Thiago Alves (No. 3 WW) vs. Paulo Thiago (No. 6 WW) Kenny Florian (No. 4 LW) vs. Clay Guida Frank Mir vs. Cheick Kongo Alan Belcher vs. Wilson Gouveia
Kongo is terrible and so is Mir. Mir beat a sick and injured Nog and was on his way to losing to Lesnar ( I'm no Lesnar fan but facts are facts) until he got the re-start from the ref.
Kongo has admitted on camera (I can provide sources of courses!!) that he purposely kneed Filopovich in the groin because he was frustrated.
I can see the championship fight but does the winner of florian/guida get a shot? Makes no sense as Florian just lost and so did Guida (to Sanchez).

The show tonight should be good and this is a card...
Matchups: Rich Franklin (No. 7 LHW) vs. Vitor Belfort (No. 8 MW) Junior dos Santos vs. Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic Martin Kampmann (No. 5 WW) vs. Paul Daley Josh Koscheck (No. 7 WW) vs. Frank Trigg Efrain Escudero vs. Cole Miller Tyson Griffin vs. Hermes Franca Vladimir Matyushenko vs. Igor Pokrajac Nik Lentz vs. Rafaello Oliveira Ricky Story vs. Brian Foster Jim Miller vs. Steve Lopez Drew McFedries vs. Tomasz Drwal Eliot Marshall vs. Jason Brilz Rafael dos Anjos vs. Robert Emerson
Vitor and Trigg back and a return of "The Janitor". I know names dont always make cards but there is a decent mix of old school and new up and comers on this one. If "Old Vitor" comes to fight they are going to change the name from UFC 104 to UFC and Franklins funeral. An ass load of good fights in the next few months. I'm stoked. Also I might have to actually watch this season of TUF to see kimbo get ruined by Simms or Nelson.
So I checked some over/under on the Machida/Rua fight. -550 for Machida and +400 for Rua!! A guy could make some decent money if Shogun pulls off the upset.
If anyone doesn't know the over/under the minus is the favorite. So if you bet 100$ on Shogun you'd get that back +400. For Machida you would have to bet $550 to win $100. ----------

I'm all over the UF season 10. For some bizarre reason I want to see Kimbo Slice succeed, perhaps only because he's such a character. Anyone with ANY MMA knowledge knows that he WILL get his ass beat probably sooner than later on this show, but I still want to see him win, lol.
As for the next 6 months of UFC....I am pumped. Rumour has it that Spider may not get his surgery yet if a decent enough fight is made for the near future.
Oh, and you asked about my references for the Nog and Duffee fights? Well.....I don't want to tell you. Not because they're secret, but because I'm embarrassed to have used the information given the reputation of this particular webpage. Those two fights are only rumoured at this point, but I wouldn't be surprised if they happen.

So, anyone watch the season premiere of The Ultimate Fighter 10 last night? Damn, I feel bad for Team Rampage. I think Sugar was right when he said Rampage's team wouldn't be able to win a single fight, haha. Anyway, that Madsen/Wagner fight was just silly. I thought Abe was gonna destroy little Jon but dude, that was the most blood I've ever seen in a fight. There was literally a pool of it under Wagner's head. How the ref DIDN'T stop that fight early is beyond me...
I'm so very stoked for next week, I think this show is already shaping up to be a classic. Lots of heat between Rampage and Sugar and whole TON of heat on Kimbo. Should make for some interesting television to say the least.

Insanity. Roy Nelson or Wes Simms. The didnt stop the fight last night cause he was defending himself and it was up near the hair/forehead line. Penn VS Stevenson was 3x as bloody. ---------- There is no 'ctrl' button on Icetitan's computer. Icetitan is always in control.

Dude, that Wes Sims is a miscreated OGRE. As experienced as he may be, I don't see him going all the way. I would love to see Jon Madsen take him out like he did Abe (rootin' for the little guy, come on).
As for "Big Country", haha, I want nothing more for him to get his man-titties slapped around before finally getting KO'd, the only problem is that he's a bog tough mofo who will probably go a long way. I'm still rootin' 1000% Kimbo, even though I know he'll lose.
---------- If you spell "The Mike" in Scrabble, you win. Forever. KJ: Same with "Shidder"

Nelson is very talented despite his shape. I couldnt beleive how decent he was on the ground against Jason Godsey. Sims is a maniac. He beat Mir's ass twice. Should be a good season.
